So...I've noticed that the majority of people who like GW are girls. And the majority of yaoi fanfics are written by girls. And well...yes, we are screaming fangirls, but honestly, I've only met one guy in my whole life who was as much of a GW fan as me. Which is ironic, because GW is totally a shojo anime/manga; meaning it was meant to be directed towards a male audience.
(Though...my one guy friend pretty much runs around screaming, "Heeeero" all the time...and posts it on my facebook...and texts it to me. Haha.)

Not that a guy couldn't be named lunah...but since it says "she.loves.you." underneath your name....that'd be kinda weird. Of course you could be tran. But then your parents would probably disown you. Life gets better once you move out.

All the guys I know, even the straight ones, much prefer cutesy ghibli animation and such to the stuff they're 'supposed' to like XD

I'd get disowned if I was a tran, definitely. XD Naw, I'm not a guy (although Lunah's not my name, it's Bianca, I just prefer Lunah ) Seriously. Except ghibili made Kiki's delivery service, right? That studio is badass.

When I went to a Con here in Colorado, basically every single one of the guys in the room for the anniversary of Gundam disowned Gundam Wing. Needless to say I was irritated. I don't mind giant mech specs, but screw that...

Oh yeah. They're all annoyed at how the fangirls took over. In fact, Gundam Wing is credited (or sometimes BLAMED) for bringing girls into the mecha animes. XD

Which is flat out ridiculous, in my opinion - as I've seen, for the most part, most mech animes are pretty damn brainless. I know that's probably lame of me to say, but on average, if you really look at the logic of the entire Gundam franchise, it really is all about huge mechs and blowing shit up and being uber special and sparkly. So it's an excellent home to mary-sues with big guns. As I have seen it, anyway.

Gundam Wing is also credited as being the deepest, and most introspective of all the Gundam series. It's the most famous of the timeline-breaker gundam series.

Depending on where you look, yes. There are numerous aspects to the other series within in the franchise that have deeper thoughts as well, they just tend to be eventually either killed off or represented as "the enemy". But because of the time-line breaking aspect of it, GW certainly had a lot of room, and that did make it more than the franchise may have expected (not to mention, obviously, a lot of male fans of the franchise).

The guys who run the Otakon Gundam panel are pretty awesome in general, but I appreciate the way they handle GW in particular. They always preamble it with, 'Before any of you say anything, remember that a good 90% of you wouldn't have even gotten into Gundam at all if it weren't for Wing.' Which is true... so obviously it was awesome enough at SOME POINT to get people into it. Even th ough we all know it is awesome forever XDDD
I think the main thing that turns guys off from Wing in general, though, is that it is more political and talky and focused on representing various ideals and such, whereas traditionally, Gundams such as the UC Gundams are more focused on the horror and grit of war and battle. You can start by comparing Relena to Amuro and the different roles they play in their respective shows despite the fact that they are both the main characters in each that are average civilians that have their lives altered by their involvement with the war.

Yeah, see. This is why our panel sucked ass. They didn't even bother mentioning what the series as a whole meant. It was all about mechs and specs. Again, I don't mind, but that was it. I was pissed.
And you've a good point, there are a lot of similar things going on from one series to the next, Wing just enjoyed more politics.
..and I've watched a bit myself, but it's been ages. 8,C I weep at my fail as a Gundam Weeabo.

They're hard to get one's paws on. All the guys I know, even the straight ones, much prefer cutesy ghibli animation and such to the stuff they're 'supposed' to like XD The guys I know like any anime with prominent... um... lady bits? Then again, one of them DOES run a hentai site...
