He is not justice obsessed, people. He said something about it once, maybe twice, and people get stuck on it.
Just like he does like women, he just prefers women who are strong, like his late wife was. It doesn't mean physically strong, but mentally. I think he likes quick-witted, people. And a bonus if they can take care of themselves.
Now for the safe houses.
...No where in the manga/anime did they ever share a safe house. I went back and watched for one, or read for one, and nothing! I hate how 'convenient' it is for people to suddenly have all five pilots in one place. That hardly ever happened in the anime/manga.
You won't get any safe house stories out of me. I used to write them, but then I rewatched and I'm all: I'm a dumb fan.
What're your opinions?

In the series the pilots were mainly working alone or in pairs but if you want to write a story involving all the boys together they were comrades in arms not necessarily friends though the chemestry between them is one of the things that sticks in the fans minds. if you want to write a story involving all the pilots together in a non combat senario that would allow that friendship to develop. fanfiction is all about filling in the blanks left by the series, exploring new dimentions to the characters or placing them in situations that couldn't have happened in the scope of the actual series. i have no problem with them sharing a safe house or a suite in preventer HQ or all rooming together in one of Q's mansions...it is what the writer does with the situation that will make or break the story. yes a lot of the 'safe house' stories tend to feel achingly Farmilliar the themes get redundant and overlap to such a degree that it is often difficult to tell one from another. but every once in a while i find a real gem, a story is a cut above the rest using a farmilliar situation or setting to cover entirely new ground and it is those stories i like.
I must say me feelings about the whole 'justics rant' thing is very similar. I believe that seeking justice for the death of his wife was one of the primary reason WuFei left his studies behing and became the warrior meirin hoped he would be... but it is just a singly aspect to an incredibly multifacetted character...they all are. Any of them to a mere steriotypewould qualify as an 'injustice'
Sad to say in the actuall series WuFei was probabally one of my least favorite characters. He felt flat...I just couldn't relate to him. But as a writer, I feel that attempting to dig deeper and find out what makes him tick has both broadened my horizions and improved my skills in characterization. Now he is one of the characters i most enjoy. I wish more writers would attempt to do the same.

I understand wanting to fill in the blanks for the non-combat places. But I suppose what really bugs me is ALL five pilots being brought together. They hardly ever did that. Sure, it did happen, and I'm sure they had their day with minor or no missions, but I highly, HIGHLY doubt they ended up in the same place. Two pilots, sure, three pilots is a stretch. Never all five. In my opinion.
Wufei is kind of flat, sure, but I can't help but be quite fond of him. He is a VERY close second behind Trowa for favorite.
I write Wufei, hell, I put up a little bitty drabble today with him in it in his PoV.
When I play Wufei, it's always after he war and he's half working for Une while getting back into his studying. The Wufei I play strives to just quite his job. But with the war happening to him and everything, he kind of just can't let go the feeling of fighting like that.
I don't know. I know he's an ass at points, and definitely not the easiest pilot to get along with, but he doesn't always have a stick up his ass. He acted like that because of the war.

lol
You did. You went there. But he doesn't always. Remember Odin's advice he always attempts to follow and then gets reconditioned? See? He tries to follow his heart/emotions. Just gotta get past that wall.

Poor Heero. He's so antisocial. Despite all the shipping, I doubt he'll ever be able to land a boyfriend/girlfriend :u he'll die a lonely man. sucka.

Ok, let me just start by saying that I have a real problem with a lot of the characterizations of Wufei that are out there. Now, I might be as guilty as everyone else, my interpretation Wufei probably sucks...BUT...this is what I think of Wufei. *ahem*
First of all, Wufei is NOT an emotional eunuch, and neither is he a ticking time bomb! A lot of people seem to have the impression that he's a jerk, he's got an obsessive nature, he's mean, etc. I couldn't disagree more. (This is something I and a couple of my proofreaders have talked about a LOT)
Think back to Wufei's child hood. He was a scholar. He loved to learn. That's what he spent most of his time doing, actually. Also, while he might not have been an absolute pacifist, neither was he a violence loving testosterone machine. He was very quiet, very gentle, and very intellectual...which is why Meiran was convinced he was a weakling. Wufei never wanted to fight, not really...but when Meiran got killed, he was suddenly saddled with a huge, overwhelming burden of guilt and shame. I think he did care for her, a great deal, or at the least felt responsible for her as her husband...and so when he couldn't protect her and she died, it was such a blow that he was knocked completely off balance. He became convinced that because he couldn't save her, he was weak, and he was unworthy. So, he became obsessed with the idea of making himself worthy. Now...the justice thing. As far as I can tell, when Wufei rants about justice, he's not trying to convince his opponents.
Big surprise. He's trying to convince HIMSELF.
Deep down inside, he's still a very gentle, quiet person, so he has to convince himself to keep fighting. He doesn't like hurting people, so he has to convince himself that he does. He builds such an effective fake personality where he is strong like Meiran wanted him to be that he can't escape it later, once the war is over, and that's why he joins up with that creepy little girl whose name I can't remember.
Wufei cares deeply about his friends, a lot more deeply than he will EVER let on. Frankly, when you get down to it, I think he's got almost as caring and nurturing a nature as Trowa...except he's blocked that portion of himself off, because he's afraid that it makes him weak, he's afraid that it makes him vulnerable, and it simply hurts him too much to let remain open. Wufei has lost everything in his life that he really cares about. First, he lost Meiran, and then later, he loses his entire colony. What's left for him but guilt, anger, emptiness, and the overwhelming feeling that everything he loves DIES because he's too weak to protect it? He NEEDS people and affection, but at the same time, he refuses to reach out because he doesn't want to set himself up for failure again. He doesn't want to see another person he cares about die.
People like Wufei get hurt very easily if they don't build strong masks to hide behind, because they feel everything so personally. If someone dies, it's because THEY couldn't protect them...that sort of thing.
Another reason Wufei joined up with the creepy little girl...he's looking for MEANING. Think about it...up until the war, he had a home. Now he has none. All he had was the fight and violence, and as much as he hated it, it still gave him a definition of who he was and where he was going. So now that the war is over, he has nothing. He's lost. He can't go back to being who he was before the war...it's impossible for him.
In Endless Waltz, at the end when Wufei fights Heero, I think that wasn't about Wufei losing it...I think it was Wufei trying to find a way to be himself again, instead of the extreme warrior that he had built up around himself. He was so used to being the warrior that when the war ended, he didn't know what to do, and he didn't know how to escape the facade he had built up around himself, but at the same time, his true self was trying to get out because it was over, and it was time to stop fighting. So the last fight was the internal struggle that he was dealing with, the warrior versus the real Wufei, where the warrior was trying to give himself a reason for his continued existence. And in the end, when Heero asks "How many more times must I kill that little girl" (or something like that) that's basically when Wufei realizes what he has made himself into.
And that's why he's able to blow up Nataku at the end. Because he's finally able to let it go.

Nice, very well thought out and i find i verry much agree. I wasn't comfortable writing WuFei till i started digging into his more scholary side. There are so many facets to all the characters in GW so mush room for interpretation that is why it appeals to such a broad audiance. I'm not sure my version of WuFei is particularly 'nurturing' in a 'works well with small childern and animals' kind of way...but i could see him more as an educator teaching older kids...firm but fair. Trowa would be all about jungle gym show & tell nap time and finger painting... WuFei would need more structure to be able to cope, he's teach social studies, history, english, literature. heero would do math, computers and PE... Duo would make a good science chemestry / physics... Quatre would do music and extra circuluars like debate team or chess club possible team up with Trowa for drama club. Zechs teaches charms and treize teaches defence against the dark arts (wizards of oz you know) and then the childern are prepared for anything

Trowa would be all about jungle gym show & tell nap time and finger painting ...team up with Trowa for drama club. LIES. Trowa would be a horribly teacher imo. He'd never tell a student if they did it right or not. He'd just be like "that's the monkey bars. go fuck yourself." ....or maybe that's me...

naw, must be you. I think with trowa is too easy going to be rude his philosophy would be its all ok so long as no one gets hurt - cos kids getting hurt would make quatre sad and sad quatre's make a for a bad day for tro so he'd put forth the effort necessary to avoid that as much as possible.

Trowa, I feel personally, is a very compassionate soul, even if you can't outwardly see it. So if he was a teacher, I firmly believe he would be 'firm but fair'. But if he saw a kid struggling, he would kind of nudge him/her along without letting the child know he was helping. Kind of boost their confidence.

I'd say fei is more the firm but fair type...not that tro would ever be inconsistant or unfair. it is just that his middle name is subtle, he wouldn't be 'harsh' as a general rule, being observant is part of his core value he can see trouble before it starts step in to encourage or correct behavior before any real issues develop. he'd create an environment where kids are free to explore the world around them and make things up as they go along. they'd love him and his refrigerator would be full of pictures they drew for him. Cows can be blue and and the sun can be green there is no wrong way if you do your best. unstructured play is part of the learning experiance.
the only time he'd get seariously 'hard line' about 'following the rules' would be if his 'jungle gym' involved tightropes n trapeese then he'd make sure apprpriate safety harnesses and catchnets would protect the little ones and he would be careful to explain why those rules were imperitive so they would understand.
